I recently picked up a few faulty PS3 super slim that have an issue reading discs, I've checked that the drive and the laser is not the issue by replacing the full assembly so I'm at a bit of a dead end. I've checked the ribbon cables with a multimeter to look for any breaks or cuts and have found all the traces to be intact.Buying a new shell removes it 100%. Or you can paint it. Mr clean magic eraser or a off brand of the product works wonders. Tried this method and it helped a lot. You would have to be looking for a scratch to see it! For any future people who try this: make sure you’re only rubbing the eraser on the scratch.

So you can’t use a disc drive from from an older unit on the super slim motherboard. The only way you can accomplish this is to create a top panel that slides open to access the disc drive. This would only work if the super slim motherboard would mount inside the fat case. The ps3 is 15 years old. If this was possible then it would online.
